The Elmhurst Boys are hosting a Pancake Breakfast to support the Keep The Heat On program Sunday, Feb. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the St. Pius Church hall, 240 Eaton St., Providence. By Jennifer Barton, Rhode Island Catholic Correspondent - PROVIDENCE — This January, most of the country experienced an extreme cold weather event, with snowfall in the southern states along the Gulf Coast and negative temperatures in other places. While occurrences of snow and cold temperatures are not uncommon in Rhode Island, the frigid winters bring heating issues to residents who may be struggling to fuel their homes.

As we approach the end of this year and the last chance to make a tax-deductible charitable donation to a program that makes a real impact and fulfills a real need for Rhode Islanders, please consider a donation in any amount in support of the Keep the Heat On fund.

Since it began in 2005, the program has continued to provide heating assistance to Rhode Islanders who have exhausted all other public and private forms of assistance. The Gregorian Concert Choir and Festival Orchestra will present a Concert entitled “The Sounds of the Season” at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Providence on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. The Concert, featuring the music of Advent and Christmas, will benefit the Diocese of Providence’s “Keep the Heat On” fund, which assists poor and low income families with utility expenses. Tickets for the concert may be purchased by calling the Cathedral office at 401-331-2434. Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the concert.

PROVIDENCE — Anyone who has experienced Rhode Island’s seasons can attest to the fact that winters can be unbearably cold and unpredictable. For years, the Diocese of Providence has been helping those in financial need keep their furnaces running against the chill of a New England winter. Since 2005, the Keep the Heat On campaign has been an important aspect of Bishop Thomas J. Tobin’s ministry to the state of Rhode Island. EAST PROVIDENCE — On the Feast of Saint Nicholas, Dec. 6 — and in the spirit of the generous saint — the Masse family at Paul Masse Chevrolet in East Providence presented Bishop Thomas J. Tobin with a large donation to benefit vital ministries of the Diocese of Providence. The family donated $250,000 to the Catholic Charity Appeal, which through its many ministries, provides social, educational and spiritual support to thousands of Rhode Islanders each year. A gift of $50,000 was given to the Diocesan Assistance Fund which provides charitable support for a number of causes.
