PROVIDENCE — Anyone who has experienced Rhode Island’s seasons can attest to the fact that winters can be unbearably cold and unpredictable. For years, the Diocese of Providence has been helping those in financial need keep their furnaces running against the chill of a New England winter. Since 2005, the Keep the Heat On campaign has been an important aspect of Bishop Thomas J. Tobin’s ministry to the state of Rhode Island. This year marks the 18th season of the program, as well as a milestone of more than $4 million in aid given to those in need.
EAST PROVIDENCE — On the Feast of Saint Nicholas, Dec. 6 — and in the spirit of the generous saint — the Masse family at Paul Masse Chevrolet in East Providence presented Bishop Thomas J. Tobin with a large donation to benefit vital ministries of the Diocese of Providence. The family donated $250,000 to the Catholic Charity Appeal, which through its many ministries, provides social, educational and spiritual support to thousands of Rhode Islanders each year. A gift of $50,000 was given to the Diocesan Assistance Fund which provides charitable support for a number of causes. And a gift of $50,000 was given to the “Keep the Heat On” program which helps families and individuals keep their homes warm throughout the winter.

The Diocese of Providence granted $411,637.10 in heating assistance this season, the most aid it has provided in the 17-year history of Bishop Thomas J. Tobin’s Keep the Heat On Program. This amount is more than double the $171,119.55 in assistance it provided last season.
PROVIDENCE — The Keep the Heat on Program for the Diocese of Providence has never experienced a heating season quite like this one before. So far this heating season, KTHO staff have already assisted 437 households compared to 183 at this time last year. Keep the Heat On has also provided more than $163,000 in assistance already this year.

The Rumford resident was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer and has been recuperating from a partial hysterectomy. She had a payment plan with National Grid for her electric, but was unable to keep current with the agreed upon budget plan plus the current bill. Finances were getting tight.
Sunday, December 5 at 3 p.m., in conjunction with the 150th Anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Providence, the Gregorian Concert Choir and Festival Orchestra will perform a concert in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Providence, entitled “The Sounds of the Season” to benefit Bishop Tobin’s “Keep the Heat On" Challenge.
PROVIDENCE — After another difficult winter, “Keep the Heat On,” the heating assistance program for the Diocese of Providence, continued to provide great relief to Rhode Islanders struggling to pay their utility bills, many due to circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
(PROVIDENCE, R.I.) – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence has announced that the National Grid Foundation has made another major gift donation for its ‘Keep the Heat On’ heating assistance program. The donation of $250,000 is the eighth major gift that the heating assistance program has accepted from the Foundation and the largest to date, more than double last year’s donation of $100,000.
